What Are Mentors and Examiners?

  • A mentor is an experienced and trusted person who gives another person advice and help, over a period of time.

  • An examiner is a person who administers and grades examinations to test people's knowledge or proficiency.

Mentor Resources

Teaching Fly Fishing To Kids. Mentors are indispensable to the Casting Instructor Certification Program. All Master level instructors are expected to mentor, or help prepare, candidates for certification, and many other certified Casting Instructors can help candidates prepare for exams. Candidates are much more likely to achieve certification and become instructors with help from a mentor. Discussion between mentors is encouraged to share ideas and best practices. Thank you for your interest and support of the Casting Instructor Certification Program! Please note, some of the links below are restricted to Certified Instructors only.

Casting Instructor Mentoring Processes

These outlines, provided by current CICP mentors, will provide a resource for new and experienced mentors to draw from as work with candidates begins or progresses. Each example is unique. One may be better for certain mentors or candidates than another. To some extent, the mentoring process must be customized to each candidate as there does not appear to be one best way to mentor for all candidates. Please review each outline. Over time, you will learn what works best for you and your candidates.
