Catch More Fish, Have More Fun
Welcome! This is the place where you can learn to cast for the first time or improve your casting skills to catch all fish in all waters. Whatever your fishing goals, there are three main options for you, briefly discussed below. Enjoy one, two, or all three of them in any order, separately, or together.
- A beginner would benefit by taking lessons from a FFI certified Casting Instructor but could also start with our Beginner Video Series - Learn To Cast or the Foundation level of Fly Casting Skills Development (FCSD).
- Those with casting skills beyond beginner could seek help from a Casting instructor, use higher levels of Fly Casting Skills Development, or learn from our More Casting Skills video series.
- A combination of learning from a Casting Instructor and using the dynamic skills learned in Fly Casting Skills Development is an excellent approach.

Lessons With A FFI Casting Instructor
FFI has certified instructors in both single hand and Spey (single hand and two hand) techniques. This learning approach is in person and probably the most productive. Beginners will get started with the fundamentals of casting. More experienced anglers will work with an instructor trained to evaluate their casting and provide a plan to reach their fishing goals. If there isn't an instructor near you, don't worry, some provide remote instruction via video, with excellent results for their students.

The FFI Casting Skills Programs offer a fun and structured way to develop your fly casting skills from beginner to advanced. These programs can be experienced as an individual, in groups and when working with an instructor. In addition to the popular Fly Casting Skills Development (FCSD) program, there are similar programs that progress through saltwater skills and Spey skills (single hand and two hand). Many of the casts in FCSD can be seen in the Learn to Cast and More Casting Skills video series, and there are videos of Single Hand Spey Skills. As FFI grows in membership, including yours, we will have additional resources to create more casting instruction videos for our members!
Casting Skills Programs
Beginners will find several videos organized to get them started which are free to the public. These videos explain foundational casts and skills in our Learn to Cast series. Here you will watch certified instructors explain and demonstrate various casts. This approach can be effective for many. More advanced casters can broaden their casting skills with the More Casting Skills video series, or may wish to use Fly Casting Skills Development. Fly anglers choosing this approach may eventually want to engage with an FFI Casting Instructor for confirmation of, or help with, some of the skills. The Casting Skills Development Program expands on what you will learn in these videos. Access to the complete Casting Video Library requires FFI membership.
