Tying and fishing tiny flies is considered by some to be a waste of time. But fish do see and key on even the smallest insects especially during a major hatch. Some question that the flies imitating small insects are not strong enough to hold larger fish. Hook selection is as important as any other aspect of tiny flies. The ability of the fisherman to see the fly when fished dry or damp admittedly can be difficult. In spite of these challenges, for me tiny flies are not just for show, they are for fishing.
Knowing that Wayne enjoyed fishing tiny flies, his good friend, the late Darwin Atkin, used to enjoy pestering me saying: – "Give ‘em meat and potatoes, that’s what I always say."
