Now that the key federal permit for the proposed Pebble mine is denied, local advocates and the fishing community are working to advance durable safeguards to ensure Pebble- or another mining company- cannot return in the future.

Description: Many of our most treasured fisheries are threatened or in decline. There is a growing body of science showing that when anglers make small adjustments in the way they catch, handle, and release fish it can create better outcomes for individual fish and populations. Keep Fish Wet provides anglers with the science-based best practices needed to release fish in the best condition possible. We believe that by using science-based best practices, anglers can put conservation into practice every time they catch a fish.

Course Number & Title: 614 Maine's Heritage Brook Trout Lakes and Ponds
Presenter: Emily Bastian
Description: Maine is the last stronghold for wild native lake- and pond-dwelling brook trout in the United States, accounting for more than 90% of the reamining intact populations. The number one threat to these native trout is invasive fish introductions, both game and bait species. Approximately 585 of Maine's self-sustaining brook trout lakes and ponds are protected under the State Heritage Fish law. A citizen driven legislative action, the law prohibits stocking and the use of live fish as bait. this program is designed for anyone who loves brook trout and is interested in efforts to protect and preserve remaining native populations.
