IFFF & Council News

'Tis the Show Season

IFFF councils, clubs and members are working hard at fly fishing shows that are happening across the U.S. as well as abroad.  Thanks to our great volunteers all over the world, the IFFF is educating people about fly fishing.  In addition to our presence at the Fly Fishing Shows, ISE, Fred Hall Show and shows that we produce, the IFFF will also have a presence at the London Fly Fair London Fly Fairon March 10-11 and the Sport Fishing Fair being held in Elmia Exhibition Hall in Jönköping Sweden on March 17-19.  Check out the the IFFF Calendar for complete event listings>>

The North Eastern Council recently launched a new website to share Council news activities with everyone in the area.  Click to view www.fedflyfishernec.org>>

The Council also had a very successful event at the The Fly Fishing Show in Marlboro, MA this past weekend. They gave flying tying lessons to a large number of children. They raised money for the council's activities and signed up new members. Our rods are tipped to the North Eastern Council and all the volunteers that worked this past weekend.

Fishing Vision LTD Produces Trailer about IFFF Fair

Learn more about the Fair ~ Watch the new trailer by Fishing Vision LTD! Livingston Montana was the gathering place as fly fishers from around the world descended on the city in early August 2016 to take part in the International Fly Fishing Fair. The week-long event brought some of the best fly fishers in the sport together to share their skills and learn new ones. A group representing Fishing Vision LTD attended and filmed portions of the event so that others in Japan and around the world could learn about the many activities of the International Federation of Fly Fishers. Credit for the production include FISHING VISION Co.,LTD, www.fishingvision.tv , President Ryo Arisawa, Executive Director Junya Miyaji and 3 other production staff members. Click to watch the trailer>>

Conservation
Conservation Committee Sees Change

New Leadership - Chairman of the Board Tom Logan recently announced that Dave Peterson, Great Lakes Council and Debbie Sharpton, Southwest Council will assume leadership positions as Chair and Vice-Chair, respectively.  Dr. Glenn Erikson was thanked for his long service to the Committee and the progress of the program under his leadership.

Conservation Grants - The word "small" is being removed from the program title.  Although the monetary amount that is awarded is $1500, in many cases our grants turn into big dollars for our recipients.  Recipients have told us that our grant is far from small to them.

The Conservation Committee also decided it would be better service to allow our clubs and councils to apply for grants throughout the year.  The deadlines of May 1st and November 1st will be removed and the Committee will review grants all year long.  So, if your club or council has a good project that qualifies for funding please apply.  You can find the information and application here>>

Scientific Report on the Lake Trout Suppression in Yellowstone Issued
Recently, a report was issued by a scientific pan on the efforts to control Lake Trout in Yellowstone.  One of the key findings was that the level of Lake Trout suppression effort in 2015 was again above primary goals (70,000 100-m net nights). Continuing suppression at this level of effort for another 7 years (for a total of 10 years), should be sufficient to result in clear evidence of population control. The General Practitioner
Guest Tier - Kevin Erickson. Most traditional “Classic” Atlantic Salmon flies are patterns developed in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Elaborate in design and complex to create, they often contain up to two dozen of the most exotic materials imaginable in each fly. The “Full Dressed” flies of old are now wonderful for the eye, but involved to tie and painful to lose when fishing. This relative “newcomer“, however, has a modest makeup and is really a simple pattern to produce. Click here to see the pattern>>
