A Few Highlights:
Back by popular demand the Learning Center includes curriculum with educational workshops designed to develop and improve skills and knowledge in the areas of tying, casting, fly fishing skills and conservation. You will find these workshops highlighted with an “LC” icon in the workshop listing.
FFI’s Women Connect Group hosts a two-day fly fishing, two-day beginner tying, an intermediate tying, and salmon fly tying workshops. These workshops will be tailored to the students’ skill level and are led by Patty Lueken, Molly Semenik and a great team of women instructors.
The tying and casting workshops are vast - both in number and variety. Whether you are a beginner; an expert or looking to achieve your certification; improve a tying technique, earn the Fly Tying Group Bronze Award or virtually anywhere in between, you are guaranteed to find something of interest! Be sure to sign up soon as many of these workshops fill up quickly. Don’t miss out on the on-water casting and fishing courses.
Don’t forget to come prepared. Most workshops list equipment needed but in general Casting workshops require you to bring an appropriate rod and reel, be prepared for weather and if you are on the water don’t forget your fishing license –you’ll need one – fishing or not. For fly tying note the skills required. Bring a basic tying kit and head cement, in addition to specific tools specified. Most rooms have good lighting; however, it may be helpful to bring personal lamps and extension cord (>12 ft.). Don’t forget eye glasses! For on-water fishing workshops, participants are responsible to plan your own transportation and asked to carpool – instructors should be in contact prior to help arrange as well. Full day on the water workshops are provided with a sack lunch. Always bring your own water. Must have a valid fishing license, provide your own gear, waders, rod and reel, flies and basic streamside gear; a wading staff is always a good idea. All on-water participants must fill out the waiver prior to the workshop.
Finally, and most-importantly, we would like to extend a big thank you to the group of talented individuals who give of their precious time to teach these valuable courses. This world-class event, featuring over 80 workshops would not be possible without you. The workshop schedule and registration forms are also posted on the fair web pages at flyfishersinternational.org. Visit regularly to check for newly listings.
