New Casting Instructor Test April 1st
A new version of the Fly Casting Instructor Performance Test will roll out on April 1, 2015. Any candidate testing after this date will be tested with this updated exam. The new test has a heavier emphasis on teaching, which reflects the CBOG's renewed efforts to focus the casting instructor program on instruction and education. To see the new performance test please

CI Prep & Testing at Orvis Rendezvous
The IFFF Casting Instructor Program will have a major presence at this year's
Orvis Guide Rendezvous in Missoula, MT. The event will be April 23-25th. The IFFF will host a CI Prep Clinic Thursday, April 23rd and testing will be Sunday, April 26th. To register for the prep clinic or testing please

IFFF & Council News
Greenlee Attends Denver Show
IFFF President, Phil Greenlee, attended The Fly Fishing Show in Denver, CO this past weekend. The Eastern Rocky Mountain Council had a booth at the event to promote the IFFF and the Council. Greenlee worked the booth and helped recruit IFFF memberships. A big thanks to all of our volunteers who work shows throughout the country and internationally!

Northern California Council's How To
NCC conducted a “How To” event at the Sacramento, CA ISE show. Ken Brunskill, NCC President, judges from the number of hooks consumed at the “How To” instruction table that at least 50 men, women and kids learned how to tie a fly!

Upper Midwest Council Upcoming Events
The Upper Midwest Council is teaming up with its clubs to offer casting lessons and demonstrations. The UMWC and the Lew Jewett Fly Fishers will be offering free casting lessons at the Great Waters Expo in Minneapolis, MN during March 20-22nd. UMWC and the Arrowhead Fly Fishers will offer a Casting Rendezvous at the U of WI, Superior in Superior, WI from 10am-3pm. Contact Todd Heggestad for more info

Clean Water Act Action Needed
There will be a joint hearing on the EPA and Army Corps clean water rulemaking on Febuary 4, 2015. This is a unique opportunity to take advantage of unprecedented congressional and media attention to the rulemaking. It’s also critical that we make the strongest case possible in this window of opportunity for protecting clean water for hunting and fishing so we don’t lose the momentum behind the effort.

IFFF's Involvement with the National Saltwater Recreation Fisheries Policy
The IFFF and Florida Council have been actively participating in the open public comment period of the the National Saltwater Recreational Fisheries Policy. The Florida Council, led by President Tom Gadacz, have written letters and have been involved in conference calls dealing with saltwater recreational policy throughout the past year.

Scott Hed Honored by Fly Rod & Reel
IFFF member Scott Hed has been awarded Angler of the Year by Fly Rod & Reel Magazine. Hed, who is the Director for the Sportsman Alliance for Alaska, is being recognized for his key role in the fight to save Bristol Bay. "His efforts to document and publicize the Pebble Mine proposal—not just through ordinary reporting, but in terms people could really understand, including multiple face-to-face meetings with anglers, hunters, politicians and Alaskan stakeholders—were fundamentally instrumental in this battle," the article states.

Scouts Learn 12 Fly Patterns
The mission of the recent Inaugural Scout Fly Tying Clinic was to provide additional angler education to Scouts and Venturers who sought further knowledge in the art of fly tying, and to help build awareness of the community organizations dedicated to fly fishing, angler education, community service, conservation and fellowship. The event was a success with enough volunteers to help each participant one-on-one and every scout able to tie all 12 flies.
