IFFF & Council News

Texas Council Partners with Texas P&WD

The Texas Council partnered with Texas Parks and Wildlife, and through funds from TP&WD, to purchase 5000 conservation bags to pass out at the expo, and to send to all clubs in Texas. These bags are great for conservation projects, are biodegradable and let water out as you pick up trash.

Member Notice
As a courtesy to all of our members, we send monthly renewal notices by email and by mail. We use the bulk mail option and unfortunately, we have recently been experiencing delays in our renewal notices being delivered to our members.  We apologize for the inconvenience, but recommend that you rely on our emailed renewal notifications. Prompt payment after receiving the email notification will greatly reduce our mailing costs, cut down on multiple payments, and support our mission of conservation and education.  If you need assistance e-mail our Membership Coordinator or call us at 406-222-9369.

Chesapeake Council Has Great Success
The Chesapeake Council IFFF and Izaak Walton League (IWL) joined together to offer a Family Fly Fishing day at IWL Sportsman Chapter facility in Pylesville, Maryland.  Thirty-three students came out to learn about our wonderful sport of fly-fishing.  The all-day agenda included topics on equipment, casting, fly tying, knots, and entomology with activities concluding with fishing on the well-stocked pond.  CCIFFF members from Potomac Valley Fly Fishers, Harford Fly Anglers and members from the Chesapeake Council board were on hand to provide the high level of instruction.  Congratulations to the Chesapeake Council!

Zach Burgoyne Spreading the Word!
Zach had the pleasure of attending the Big Horn Youth Adventure in Montana in June 2014.  He is still talking about his adventure and sharing his story wherever he can.  His last stop was at the Magic Valley Fly Fishers in Twin Falls, Idaho. We encourage Zach to continue his message and bring more people into the sport.

Conservation News

Help Hawaiian Bonefish Achieve Gamefish Status
It is no longer a secret that the state of Hawaii supports a pretty good bonefish fishery. Catching a fish over 10 pounds is not uncommon to our friends in the Pacific. Just like the Keys, the Bahamas, and Belize, the bonefish in Hawaii face their own set of challenges and they need our help.
Unfortunately, gill-netting and commercial sale of bonefish in Hawaii are both commonplace and legal. A group of very concerned anglers and guides are currently petitioning Hawaii Governor, David Ige to designate bonefish as a "gamefish" in the state, thus prohibiting commercial sale. Please assist them with this effort by taking a moment to fill out their petition.

IFFF Supports Funding for Streamgage
Dr. Richard Williams, IFFF Senior Conservation Adviser, reiterated the need for our support, "We can’t manage without consistent year-to-year data. As climate changes, we won’t be able to track and predict long-term patterns without this kind of data."  Other IFFF Conservation leaders, including Dr. Glenn Erikson and IFFF Senior Conservation Adviser Tom Logan, concurred.  Philip Greenlee, President & CEO and other conservation organizations leaders signed the letters that are being sent to Congressional leaders. Read the letter>>

One of IFFF's partners has success
Mill Creek in West Virginia was submitted by the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBRJV) for the 2015 "10 Waters to Watch" campaign.  Mill Creek was selected for the 12th time an EBTJV project water has been selected for the 10 Waters to Watch campaign since the National Fish Habitat Partnership initiated this effort in 2007.

Did You Know?

A look back at the past 50 Years
In 1971 the membership office moved from a spare room in Ed Strickland's home to a spare room in Arnold Gingrich's home.  Can you imagine keeping hundreds  of members records manually?  We have the historical documents in the IFFF archives to prove their dedication to the task.
